.....

Hot nights in my untidy bed
Laying here alone with each other
Sweat glistening a while
Evaporating and then replaced
By new beads as if the sting had snapped
Beneath our skin, leaving our secretion
To the whim of our sweet actions.

Our nightclothes have been cast aside
Laying calm and still, for so long
Moonlight sliced by the wooden blinds
Moves into each fabric fold and crease
And then it cuts our skin
Stretched out across our naked flesh
Like silver fingers, tracing down our curves.

Mouths a gasp for saturation
Tongues lapping up each others perspiration
Your dark red lips close over me
Lapping at my sudor skin
To gain some kind of grim satisfaction
And my grimace is held in the sultry air
Caught for a moment in anticipation.

We lay back down in our isolation
Listening to the sirens and car horns outside
Those urban sounds that drown out the birds
The sunlight breaking what the night had brought
Casting light onto our scene of lechery
The wine bottle pointing at us both
Dark corners losing their mysteries
Even though they were never uttered or accepted.

Sunlight brought shame back to you
As you take up your clothes and wrap the sheets
Around your waist, a waist I had two hours ago
I offer you some breakfast
But you say you have to run
Hair in a tangle that makes me grin
You think it’s me being smug and slap me
That’s what I get from loving someone volatile
And you storm out, to go back to your husband.

'Hot nights and unwelcome husbands'

is a poem about a couple that meet at night...

it speaks for itself...
